Nurturing Growth in Crops and Community

Meet Margreth Bilau, Solomon Islands

Margreth Bilau is a 50-year old married mother of 6 from the community of Burns Creek, Honiara, Solomon Islands. 10 years ago, Margreth ventured into farming. Starting with a small plot of land, she cultivated tomatoes and corn—despite challenges like unpredictable weather and a challenging market.

In 2015, Margreth joined the South Pacific Business Development (SPBD) network, which provided her with business training and a loan of SBD 3,000 (approximately 675 NZD or 375 USD). This support allowed her to adopt modern farming techniques and expand her operations.

Today, Margreth's farm thrives, sustaining her family and offering employment to her community. She actively engages in initiatives promoting sustainable agriculture and empowering rural women.

Looking ahead, Margreth remains dedicated to expanding her farm and inspiring others with her journey of resilience and determination. For Margreth Bilau, farming is more than a livelihood—it's a means of nurturing growth in her crops and community alike.
