Meet Elvinah Supisi Warahiru, Solomon Islands

Meet Nelly Tanga, Vanuatu

Elvinah Supisi Warahiru, 38, is the Centre Chief of the Friendly Women’s Centre in GBR Henderson. It is a role that requires dedication, patience, and the ability to inspire other women. As a mother of four, she understands the pressures that many women in her community face: the need to support their families while balancing household responsibilities and limited economic opportunities.

For years, Elvinah dreamed of starting a small printing and tailoring business, but lacked both the equipment and the financial support to make it possible. Through SPBD Microfinance Solomon Islands, she recently took out her first loan which enabled her to take her first real step into entrepreneurship. She purchased a new electric sewing machine, fabrics, and other tailoring equipment, all essential tools that broaden the scope of services she can offer.

With the equipment in place, she now produces personalized items for local customers: small custom print jobs, and tailored garments. These new services have generated income that helps provide stability for her children’s schooling, food, and daily household needs.

Elvinah’s long-term goal is to expand her printing and tailoring operations and secure a permanent space where she can run a fully established workshop. She hopes that by growing her business, she can employ other women in her community and inspire them to pursue their own entrepreneurial paths.

“I want to show people in my community, but most of all my children, that with hard work and the right support, someone like me can build their own opportunities. I want them to see that a mother can lead, learn, and create a better future for her family.” - Elvinah
